Contest Entry - Business Meeting

My entry for round 3 of This theme is so unique, it took me a little while to get some inspiration but I finally got it! Again, I am so sorry for the long description ahead!

Here we have Seina on earth arguing with a big time business man with her brother in law, Horus at her side. Horus had been to earth with his brothers to learn some martial arts techniques. In their fun, he had forgotten his precious sword behind. It was found and auctioned off, to the big time business man, Mr. Grayson. When the royal family finds this out, King Martius decides against using force to retrieve the sword, or lest risk starting a war or confrontation with earths human inhabitants. So he decides to send the gentle Seina, who he believes would have a better time charming the business man than his hot-headed son.

STORY TIME

Seina paced outside the unfamiliar office door. She wanted to pull this off so badly. Her father in law had trusted her with this mission and she wasn’t going to fail. Horus sat in a chair calmly to her right, watching his sister-in-law worry.

“I didn’t need you to be here, you know.” He remarked for the 10th time since they left Zoududan that morning.

“I know, Horus.” Seina rolled her eyes. "But if you hadn’t forgotten your sword here we wouldn’t be in this mess."

“I didn’t forget it!”

“Then why is it here?

“Just shut up, Seina.” Obviously annoyed, Horus rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.

Seina went over the plan in her head. She would pretend to be the lawyer for the prince of a wealthy country, somewhere in “Africa.” She had read that was a continent on earth, whatever that meant. Her “client” had left his sword behind during a prior visit and he would be forced to surrender it.

“Yeah.” She thought to herself. “That must work!”

A young woman emerged from the left. “Mr. Grayson will see you now. Please follow me.”

Horus got up and jumped in front of Seina, so he could enter the room first.

“Shouldn’t I lead? I am your “lawyer.” 

“A prince always enters first.” 

Once Seina entered, she observed Mr. Grayson sitting behind a large wooden desk.

“Welcome.” He smiled. It reminded Seina of a snake. “Please take a seat your excellency.” He gestured to a large black arm chair in front of the desk.

“I’ll stand.” Horus replied, admiring his sword which had been tacked up to the wall in a shadow box.

“Well then you have a seat Miss.” Grayson addressed Seina.

“Thank you.” Seina took her seat.

“My secretary informed me that your client seems to have some claim to my recently acquired sword?”

Seina took a deep breath to steady herself. “Yes. This is Prince Horus, my client. He was visiting you city 4 weeks ago. During this time, he made many purchases including that sword.” She gestured to Horus’s sword. She continued, “In the haste of packing his servants mistakingly left that behind in his hotel room. We would like it back please.”

Mr. Grayson studied Seina then smiled. “Surely you have documents to prove your story.”

“Documents?” Seina thought to herself. “Uh…” She stuttered. 

Seeing Seina’s hesitation, Horus put a hand to his forehead, exasperated. “Great.” He muttered.

Mr. Grayson laughed. “Did you honestly think you could scam me like this? Go home little girl. You’re talking to a lawyer here. I can tell you’re a fake and far too stupid to play in the big leagues.”

Upon hearing Grayson’s insult Horus moved to stand behind Seina. They might not be close, but she was family. And he protected his family. He shot a glare at Grayson. 

Seina gritted her teeth. She didn’t like to be underestimated, not anymore. Ares had taught her that in the right situation, asserting yourself, and fighting for what’s right, can be ok. She felt that this was one of those times. She quickly produced forged papers using a spell.

“You didn’t let me finish Mr. Grayson. I have the papers here. Including the receipt for the sword.” She handed the papers over the desk.

Grayson’s smile disappeared as he took them from the young woman. Looking over them he only became more and more visibly agitated.

“Is something the matter, sir?” Seina asked coolly. 

“I’m not giving up the sword. I don’t care what your papers say. I have my own receipt! I paid good money for it!” He shouted throwing the papers in the trash can by his desk.

“That may be true. But our receipt predates yours. And unless you want to spend more of your “good money” disputing this in court, when in the end you know we will win. I suggest you hand it over.” She smiled. 

Mr. Grayson gritted his teeth and his hands curled into fists.

“I’m afraid we’re bound by the law.” She shrugged her shoulders smugly. “We’ll be taking the sword, Horus.”

Horus grabbed the box from the wall.

Seina got up from her seat. “Thank you for your time Mr. Grayson.” She turned and left the room with her head held high.

Once they left the building, Horus laughed.

“What?” Seina questioned.

“That was great! Thank you! You were great! I expected you to choke. I mean- no disrespect or anything…” He stuttered. “You’re just not the arguing type, you know?”

“I know.” Seina smiled. “You guys have really helped me grow in the years since I married Ares. I really should be thanking you.”

“Nah.” He gave her a light punch on the arm, smiling. “I’m still thanking you. I would’ve just made things worse with my big mouth.”

“Well…thank you!” Seina accepted the compliment. 

“Let’s get going, I’m starving.” Horus remarked. And with their mission complete, the two returned home.
